Types of Assessment Services
BSC provides assessment services to agencies and organizations in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario. BSC also collaborates with organizations across Ontario to provide quality hospital-based assessment services close to home, eliminating the need to travel for services. As a program under the St. Joseph’s Care Group, BSC is known for reliability, accuracy, and objectivity. Our independent medical consultants provide a variety of assessments including orthopedic, GP, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, kinesiology, and chiropractic specialties. BSC provides clear, concise reports that meet the needs of insurers, employers and other referents.
Our registered kinesiologist and registered occupational therapists assess the physical demands of a job for use in job descriptions or to assist with assessing an employee’s ability to return to work. This valuable document is useful when planning an early and safe return to work as well as guidelines for job descriptions and for use in post-offer pre-employment fitness testing.
The FAE is one of the most objective assessments for determining a person’s ability to perform job-specific tasks from lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling to fine motor abilities. BSC uses ERGOS® Sapphire Work Assessment System (WAS) a versatile testing computer that can be easily adjusted to address any occupation.
BSC offers flexible assessment options from a full FAE employing both a physiotherapist and kinesiologist, to a shorter more focused Work Fitness evaluation, depending on your needs.
Our registered kinesiologist is able to visit your workplace to determine any ergonomic stresses in the work environment. Recommendations are made for adjustments to workstations as well as other equipment which could make the worksite more ergonomically functional. When possible, adjustments are made at the time of assessment. In all cases, the assessor provides a full report outlining any recommendations and completed adjustments.
BSC has a team of registered psychologists with a wide range of expertise. Required assessments address a number of issues individuals may face including post-traumatic stress, depression, workplace stress, and anxiety. Psychological evaluations are useful in determining treatment needs and recommendations regarding return to work, and can provide general insights into the workplace environment.
BSC has access to a wide array of assessment tools to help you hire the best candidate for any position within your organization. BSC can arrange for testing related to tasks such as keyboarding, database entry and mechanical reasoning as well as program-specific testing for various popular word processing and spreadsheet programs. Additionally, personality-based measures allow the hiring committee to gain an insight into a candidate’s behaviour and thinking styles and the impact that may have on “fit” and longevity with an organization’s vision and culture.
Physicians complete these brief medical evaluations to determine if there are any medical issues that would stop the candidate from performing essential tasks of the job. BSC is able to arrange all required pre-employment medicals including drug screening, spirometry, chest x-rays, audiology examination by independent consultants, complete with a comprehensive report.
A Registered Nurse is also available to complete pre-employment screening.
BSC is a FSCO Licensed Service Provider and a proud member of the Ontario Hospital Alliance of Assessment Providers (OHAAP).
